WHO WE ARE
Welcome to Puffy
Paws Kitty Haven Web site. We are located in beautiful Englewood, Florida. We are a 2,800 square foot, 501(c) (3) non-profit,
free-roaming, cage-less, no-kill haven and rescue for unwanted kitties.
No - Kill
Here at Puffy Paws Kitty Haven we do not put down any animals for behavior problems, space
or adopt-ability issues. Yet Puffy Paws Kitty Haven never has and never will let any kitty suffer with any medical condition
that only allows pain & suffering and no chance of survival.
We realize
that their is outside forces who believe that their is no such thing as " No-Kill" .
No Kill sheltering models, based on innovative, non-lethal programs and services, have already saved the lives of
tens of thousands of animals.
But instead of embracing No Kill, many
shelters—and their national agency allies—cling to their failed models of the past, models that result in the
killing of millions of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters every year.
Here at Puffy Paws
Kitty Haven we wish not to be drawn into public controversy over our " No-Kill "statues, we only wish to save the
lives of the unwanted kitties of the Community.
The Beginning
The founders of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven, Chrissy and Rick Kingston,
have rescued and acquired unwanted kitties that have physical, emotional and behavioral problems since 1997.
Throughout the years,the Kingston's
have spent well over $100,000.00 of their own money, on these loving, unwanted kitties.
In order to serve the kitties better, the Kingston's decided that it would be a great idea to form a Not-for-Profit
Corporation, for the direct benefit of the kitties in the Fall of 2006.
Puffy Paws
Kitty Haven was named after a small sickly little kitten that was part of the Kingston's family for only a year.
The Kitty's name was Poo-Puffy Paws ,or Poo Puff for short; he was such a happy little kitten. Sadly enough,
he passed away during Hurricane Charlie.
Naming the Haven after him represented to us
something we hoped other folks would know: that one kitty at a time can change the heart of one person at a time.
" FUR- EVER HOMES
"
Since than Puffy Paws Kitty Haven is proud to announce that it has
started up a Kitty Adoption Program in the Summer of 2007, and adopted out over 101 kitties. Currently we have many kitties
available for adoption in the Haven.
Since space is limited in the Haven, we are expanding
our adoption program by seeking foster families. These foster families would provide a temporary home for unwanted kitties
that come into Puffy Paws care until forever homes can be found.
WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT
Puffy
Paws Kitty Haven takes care of the largest amount of special need kitties than any other rescue or shelter in the area.
Here at Puffy Paws we specialize in taking care of special need kitties that would have been euthanized at
other highly publicize traditional shelters and or rescues because of their medical conditions.
We are set up to handle the different medical concerns the kitties have by separating them into their very own living
quarters in two different buildings.
Kate Spinner From The Sarasota Herald-Tribune wrote
that we are " Set up more like a bed-and-breakfast than a traditional shelter." for kitties.
We have the 2000 sq foot " Haven Home " which house our healthy adoptable kitties, and our permanent residence
of the Haven, who have physical, emotional and behavioral problems.
Our
second building is 800 sq foot and is refereed to as the May Lynch Rescue Center. The Rescue Center houses the Kitty Angel
Club. Our kitties with Feline Leukemia are housed in one of the two separated 400 sq feet rooms.
In a few short weeks the members of the " Kitty Angel Club ", will be enjoying an out-door, free-standing,
backyard fence system thanks to the folks from Purr...fect fence. This portion of the Haven will be called the Kitty Angel
Park .
WHATS NEXT
We will be also creating a National Awareness Campaign that will bring awareness that that certain physical, emotional,
behavioral and medical conditions that some kitties have should not warrant a death sentence.
Also starting in 2009,Puffy Paws Kitty Haven will be looking into taping a half hour TV Show to run on Lease Access
TV through out the County and locally on - Channel 21 (Blab TV) on Comcast.
